Digital Marketing: All You Need to Know

Coming out with the right offer at the right time and in the right place--cleverly supported by an exciting gift or a coupon or a free service--is the Number 1 Rule in marketing now.
Today, your clients, by and large, are busy surfing: using the different social media platforms, keeping themselves updated on news sites & blogs, and surfing when they have a special need.

Thanks to Digital Marketing, you find yourself in those channels, so that your would-be customers may find you, find out more about you, and even throw questions to figure out not only more about you, but also about the products or services you could be offering.
No wonder, right from optimizing content to personalizing offers to administering contacts at different channels, firms of all kinds are harnessing the exclusive reach of Digital Marketing, to make the customer experience better, and multiply the sales.
You also must join the Digital Marketing bandwagon, if you haven't already done so.

What's Digital Marketing?
As you can figure out, it's the creative and path-breaking marketing of products or services, harnessing digital technologies.
It employs different channels and technologies that enable a firm or company to examine campaigns, content and strategy, to decode what's leading to results and what's not.
Though Digital Marketing drives mostly hinge on the Internet, you can't leave mobile phones, display advertising, and any other digital platform--via text messaging, podcasts, electronic billboards, digital television and radio channels, etc.

Online and offline are the 2 main kinds of Digital Marketing. While the latter involves stuffs--such as radio and television--the former has 6 major categories:
1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO): The search engine biggie, Google, is focusing on user experience. By figuring-out the way search engines rank websites, you may optimize a website, to exploit its chances of ranking decently for the related searches. In case you come out with a robust site architecture, and offer clear navigation, search engines will index your pages rapidly, and with ease. It will also proffer you with a good experience of using your website pages and inspire many visits. But since search engine algorithms are constantly changing, stay up-to-date with the best practices, to rank high for the appropriate keywords.
2. Search Engine Marketing (SEM) & Pay-per-click advertising (PPC): Characteristically, SEM and PPC advertising is done via search engines, which charge a prearranged money from you every time someone clicks your ad. While the search engines make good money through this model, you, as the site owner, too, gain as you get a chance to accurately target your would-be clients.
3. Content Marketing: It involves interacting with your clients minus any hard selling. Use Content Marketing strategies to educate your prospects while you share consistent, treasured details to win their loyalty.
4. Social Media Marketing (SMM): A SMM strategy guides your actions and informs you if you're succeeding or not. Each and every post, reply, like, and comment should serve a special goal. Use exciting mode to realize your business aims, if we talk about building brand equity, making customer service better, netting new clients, and getting response from the existing ones. In case you generate social media content that gives value to others, you will connect with your clients in a better manner.
5. Affiliate Marketing: It's the comparatively new procedure of pocketing a commission, via promoting other people's (or firm's) products. This is the procedure of spreading product creation and product marketing across different parties, where each party gets a share of the revenue on the basis of their contribution.
6. E-mail Marketing: Since too long it has helped businesses generate sales, via the internet. It provides direct contact with your clients and allows you to visit your website. It helps if your e-mails show your brand's general character. Find the right balance of the types of e-mail marketing for your organization, for maximum traction.

What Is a Website Backup and Why You Need One

Most businesses now have a website and in order for that website to be live it must be hosted on a server. The IP address of the server combined with your business URL is what delivers the stuff you've been looking for. It might sound complex, but it is simple fit the people who set it up, configure or maintain it!
What could go wrong?
The server where your website files sit, whether that be 'in the cloud' or in a freelancers spare bedroom, is a physical piece of hardware, and that makes it vulnerable to failure. This failure could be down to a number of things:
Security breach
Everyone that has heard the word 'website' has also heard the word 'hacked'. Hacking is a major issue that you have to face. There are many 'types' of hack, from a brute force attack - which is an automated 'bot' guessing thousands of passwords a minute - to more sophisticated breaches. For example those that get into the root files through something like a plugin, and install malware on the website itself. Whatever the hack is, they cost a lot of time and money, not to mention the loss of credibility with customers. Doing all you can to minimise the chances of a hack occurring, or reducing the impact when it does, is only a good thing.
Accidental deletion
To clarify, the site files and the database sit on the server and power the whole website. You won't (or shouldn't) ever need to concern yourself with these, only your web developer or hosting company will ever touch them. It is possible, because humans are involved that there may possibly human error and someone deletes your site off the server. Think about that - someone just simply deletes your whole, entire, website with a couple of errant clicks. A reputable company hosting your site with really good infrastructure, will take a copy of the entire server every night and transfer that to another completely separate server. However if it is a small company or a friend hosting your site, it is highly likely you now have no site at all and no way of retrieving it.
Malicious deletion
One thing that is less common, but something to consider is malicious deletion. You may have a disgruntle employee with access to the content management system (CMS), the facility that allows you to make all the content updates. They may not even work for you anymore, but if their access credentials haven't been changed, they can log in and cause all kinds of damage. While they might not be able to delete the core site files (the actual site architecture), they would be able to delete all the content that is on the site, or perhaps worse, write all manner of 'inappropriate things'. With content deletion you would notice, with new content slipped in, you may not. If they have access to the server and the site files, you may have an even bigger problem on your hands.
Server Failure
A server is a piece of physical hardware, and therefore it can break, no different from your laptop or your phone. If the site isn't backed up, then the inability to get the server working will mean that your website cannot be restored.
How can I avoid these things happening?
Ensure you have a good policy in place that allows you to monitor who has access to what, and as soon as an employee ceases to work with you, or there are employee relationship issues you can restrict, or remove access to avoid any issues.
There is a step that you can take however which means that you're covered for every eventuality, and that is having a robust backup schedule in place. So how do you get this?
01 - Find out who hosts your site and their backup regime. What is the disaster recovery plan? Just in case the worst happens
02 - Ask if you can get a physical copy of your website site files and database sent over to you as a zip file, so if the absolute worst happens, and your site is completely deleted, you have a copy of your site on your hard drive
03 - If a backup schedule is available, ask what it is and establish whether it is enough. For instance if the site is backed up every three months but you add and amend content three times a week, you stand to lose a fair bit of content. Ideally you want it backed up every night
04 - Make sure that you check your site regularly for any issues and that backups from longer periods are saved. If your site is backed up every night and you have been hacked, each new backup will overwrite the old one - effectively a bad copy replacing your existing good copy. Unless you establish you've been hacked immediately, your restore copy (from the night before) may not be the clean version. This is why you need a series of backups taken so you can go back to various points in time with a 'clean copy'.
05 - When you write content for your website, make sure it is saved elsewhere as opposed to just being added to the website directly. That way if the worst happens and your content is wiped, you still have a copy of it to paste back in the CMS - for example as I write this blog, I'm writing it and saving it as a Word document so I can retrieve it if needed in the future.
06 - Make sure you keep your website and plugins up to date, and ensure you have as few people as possible with access to the server and the CMS, and those that do have really solid passwords so there is less chance of a security breach.

4 Good Reasons to Start an Online Business

Starting an online business is a relatively straightaway process provided you have decided on a product or service to promote, have the relevant hardware, and the necessary finances to get set up. With the right planning in place, an online business has the potential to offer a full-time or a useful extra income. Here are four positive reasons why it can benefit to start an online business:
Low initial investment
A great place to begin the process of setting up a small online business is to create a website and buy a memorable domain name and invest in a reliable web hosting service. This is likely to cost less than $100. However, there are also several content management systems that are entirely free to use. They are practical for those wishing to test an idea without investing a lot of money. Plus, there are plenty of free or low-cost options to build your target audience, such as the social media platforms.
Great flexibility in work time
Anyone that decides to run an online business has the opportunity to work when they choose. However, it is beneficial to put in place a proper work schedule to make sure the business is run in an efficient manner. A focused plan means you will fully devote your time and energy into the most important aspects of the business. Also, if you find your workload is completely up to date, you have the flexibility to take a break at any time of the week whether this is a weekday or on the weekend.
Nominate a work location
If you are looking to set up an online business, you will not be limited to working in a single location. Provided you have a decent laptop and reliable internet connection, you have the option to operate the business from wherever you want.
Most people will look to set up a home office, which makes it really easy to combine your work and home life. However, for those that prefer the dedicated work space, a contemporary shared office space makes it possible to work in a traditional office environment, but without the need the cover the cost of long-term lease.
Unlimited exposure
An internet based business has unlimited exposure with the potential to sell any service or protect imaginable provided that you are able to market your website to the right target audience. Also, there are plenty of low-cost options to advertise the online business, which is certain to be a lot lower than a traditional bricks and mortar business.

Online Business - Is It for You?

I am going to start with a bit of a 'controversial statement (as I am quite prone to do):-
Starting a Business, Online (or Offline) is NOT for everyone & actually may NOT be for YOU.
If you are looking at working for yourself and starting up a business, you might be the best Joiner, Painter, Mechanic, Salesperson, etc, BUT it may not be for you - If you don't have or acquire certain traits, skills and experience, you will probably fail (maybe ending up owing a lot of money!) and being an employee is probably better for you: especially if you prefer:-
regular hours,
regular pay,
regular holidays,
sickness pay, or
are risk averse,
lack willpower and stamina.
Working for yourself and starting a business is definitely NOT a job. You have got to ask yourself if starting up and (hopefully) running a viable, successful business is for YOU - and no-one else.
This is exactly the same for an Online business, maybe more so. Just setting up a website for your Offline business is definitely NOT classed as running an Online business - really, all Offline businesses should have a website as an online presence as a minimum, however if you are really set on setting up an Online business, then there are specifics that must be addressed:-
It is NOT EASY
It takes TIME
It takes MONEY (maybe not a great deal initially but it does cost if done correctly!)
It is NOT a 'Get Rich Quick' solution
You will need to LEARN & develop a new set of skills and be comfortable with Marketing
An understanding of Computers will be required & you must be willing to learn
In comparison to a 'traditional' bricks & mortar' offline business, an Online business can be very cost-effective as a start-up. So... What do YOU consider as an Online business?
Lots of people have found many ways to run a successful (profitable?) Online business, I have personally made a decent living selling items and information on a 'popular' auction site but the method(s) I have learned are only a few and I am currently still looking to learn other methodology and processes.
As an example, please 'Google' (funny how this has become a 'verb'!) or place in your search engine "make money online" - at the time of writing this gives 165 Million results, so there are many ways (some good, some not so!) regarding making money online. Have a good look around and see how big the online business is, and how vast the number of opportunities are. The only thing I recommend is NOT to buy anything before you have had a good look around - there are lots of scams and totally useless products/programs out there - so Caveat Emptor:- 'Buyer Beware'!
I want you to understand the range of opportunities out there, and that what may be suitable for some people may not be suitable for others.
Looking at things from a positive angle however, I believe the plus points of an online business are:-
Anyone can start and run a business, with no restrictions on age, race, gender, education, privilege
No commuting or having to get up and get ready for an early or late start
You are working for yourself, not as a wage slave for an ungrateful boss/company

Make Money Online With Your Own Internet Business

The Make Money Farce
You have seen them and probably received thousands of them since you have begun internet marketing. They come out the wood works, don't they? Opportunities promising that you too can make money online with little to no effort. You then invest your money into the opportunity only to find out there aren't any pies in the sky... only the cold hard reality that you just spent some of your rent money on someone's new car.
Yes, this is the reality many internet marketers face. I have been there. I started in this business with my father and let me tell you... we have seen every scam under the sun. Why? Because we were those people who had a dream and wanted to help other people through success only to find out there ain't no free lunch in business. The cold hard truth is that "business is business". Period. There are a million work from home opportunities contrived each year. There are many more gullible individuals who buy into the dream. In the end, they are left like me and my dad... a few thousand dollars shorter.
But, It's Online And It Has To Be TRUE
Here is a revelation. People who scam lie. They don't just lie a little, its more like lie a lot. They want you to trust them, and to believe their story. But when it comes to delivering... well. You know. You've been there a thousand and one times. You've spent your money on the magic potions of the internet only to realize that you are out of money and now have a rash (the legendary rash of discouragement).
I'm not here to sell you a pie in the sky. I am here to be your jolt of reality. Sleeper, it's time to wake up! The internet is not some new invention that defies the laws of business. It is business on steroids. Imagine the business rules you know and then multiply them by the sheer volume of variables now introduced by the online component. The internet can allow you to become very wealthy or very broke.
So... Can I Make Money Online Or Not?!
You can young Jedi. I know some of the things I've said may be a little cheeky but I am serious. There is no money like "internet business" online money. The thing is you have to see it for what it is. Your internet business is just that... a business. Do not enter the online business field with any other mindset than "I am going to run MY business".
There is nothing more rewarding and satisfying professionally then running your own business. And if ran right, your internet business can feed you and your family. You may be looking for quick ways to make money. Once you setup your business depending upon the model you use the money can come quick. It all comes down to you and your imagination. Add hustle, grind, and grit and you got something.

How To Start An Online Business - The Secret Is "Service"

If you're looking to cultivate any sort of business endeavour - online or otherwise - the most important thing that I have found is the role of SERVICE in what you're doing.
Service is NOT an arbitrary word used to describe whether you respond to customer support emails - it lies at the CORE of what determines whether a business venture will become successful or not.
Putting this into perspective, if you consider what a "business" actually "does" - we've witnessed a stark shift from a "production" to a "service" based model over the past 15 years.
Fuelled by the connectivity of the Internet & developments in engineering techniques, the way to "be productive" in the modern world (particularly the West) is to provision new products and tools. How they get made should be a secondary concern (very little profit in it).
The key - as opposed to historic production - is that it's no longer the case that having "production capacity" is a major deal... almost everybody has access to that.
What people don't have is a MARKET into which to offer their products. This market (depending on which type of company you end up cultivating) will then determine the PRICE of the product and whether it's something they'll consider using.
The point is that if you're looking to "get into" business, the absolutely most important thing you NEED to consider is what type of SERVICE you will be able to provide as a professional. This service - applied using either your own products/tools, or someone else's - is the real secret behind why some companies "always" seem to grow, whilst the majority struggle.
This tutorial aims to explain how it works, and what to do if you're looking to get involved in the world of enterprise.
Service Makes The World Go Round (Literally)
Most people get involved with "business" because they have an idea they wish to pursue.
Perhaps they wanted to create their own clothing line, have some sort of "lifestyle" business (winery/farm etc) or get involved with a particular field (cosmetics / modelling) - the hallmark of "failed" businesses typically starts with someone's wistful desire to "work for themselves".
This is a lie. People don't care that you started a "business" and all the stories you read about a 12-year-old CEO who's onto his fifth company are only there because the publication wanted some fresh hype to keep its readers coming back.
The simple reality is that the MAJORITY of people are only moved by necessity. How "necessary" they deem a product to be to their life is how much value they'll attribute to it (and thus a price).
The way to ensure that YOUR products are bought is to create a necessity for its usage. Don't even think about "selling" it - [most] people aren't stupid; they'll attribute a price to any product they deem as essential to their life. No one ever quibbled over the cost of life-saving heart-surgery... and the same principle exists in every other business. People pay you in direct proportion to how much you actually "give a damn" about what you're doing.
The most important thing is to realize is that "service" sits at the CORE of what makes people interested in a company.
It's not their "products" or even their "staff" - it's what they DO on a daily basis which drives RESULTS. This "activity" is what the market recognizes - and is ultimately attracted to.
Think about it.
  • Apple don't "manufacture" their products. They design them and come up with all the components etc. Their service is design.
  • Tesla do "manufacture" their products because no-one else can do it as well as them.
  • Amazon are really a digital logistics company - no one is able to store and send out as many parcels as effectively as them.
If you want to get into "business", come up with a RESULT that you can provide to a market.
  • 10,000+ Twitter followers in the first 60 days
  • 150+ YouTube subscribers in the next 90 days
  • Conversational Italian in 14 days GUARANTEED
  • Branding Lessons From Ferrari + Lamborghini
  • CUSTOM SHIRTS get you laid; CUSTOM SUITS get you paid
If you're looking to "start" a business, the absolute BEST thing you can do is look at what people are ALREADY looking to buy (just browse the "best sellers" section of any marketplace).
This gives you a direct indication of *exactly* what they have a budget for (what they're willing to PAY for). This allows you to provide this RESULT as a service (IE in your own way) - giving you the ability to start attracting clients by virtue of how effective you are at providing said results.
The BIGGEST issue I've seen is leading with a product, or even "solution". I hear it all the time - "what problem does your business solve"... hardly anyone buying a product actually thinks they have a "problem". Rather, they are looking for a particular SERVICE that can be provided to them to improve their life in some specific way. Or - as Gary Halbert said - "your marketing should make their pupils dilate".
Think about it like this - which would you rather do business with: "The World's LARGEST Social Media Agency" or "The ONLY Agency To GUARANTEE 10,000+ FOLLOWERS In The NEXT 30 DAYS Or Your Money Back ". Whilst the former works for established businesses, the latter works for ANY business - especially new ones.
Notice how you're not actually selling anything about the "process" of how you achieve the results? This comes afterwards; you need to stipulate EXACTLY what the buyer is going to get for their time/money, which in the case of "social media" is followers. For SEO, it's #1 Google ranks and for "programming", it's to create a "RECURRING SAAS BUSINESS".
Obviously, the way in which those various results are cultivated is vital. But the irony is no-one cares about how you do it... as long as it's legit.
This is why some companies "always" seem to win - their "service" is based around the provision of particular RESULTS. They ignore (outsource) everything else.
If Starting A Business, It "Pays" To Focus On Service
In conclusion, if you're looking at "starting" a business - the key is to forget yourself and focus entirely on the underlying results you can provide to the client.
If you don't have the skills to provide said results, you need to get to work building them up (which can be done on the job).
Think about every transaction from the perspective of what you can add to the engagement. Don't be afraid to "give away the family silver" (in terms of "secrets") - 99% won't compete with you, and the one guy who will rip you off will jump onto the next fad he finds.
The key thing you need to do from an enterprise perspective is to identify the various "services" which you're either able - or capable of - providing for anyone with the right budget.

Setting Goals For Your Online Business

The need for goals
Reaching our goals helps us to believe in ourselves and setting goals is a great way to fuel our ambitions. It isn't just about creating a plan for our success in life, it's also to give us the inspiration we need to reach out and reap more than we ever thought possible. Goals focus our acquiring of knowledge and help us to set our time and resources in an order to get the very best for our situations.
In this article we'll discuss:
  • Guidance in your niche selection
  • What are niche goal projections and outcomes?
  • Are you busy or productive
  • Ninja productivity hack revealed
  • Video - Goal projections and outcomes
Guidance in your niche selection
What do you like to do? What are your habits, hobbies, or passions? There are a number of niche choices within any main topic when you break it down.
An example could be Baseball which is a very broad term with lots of competition. If we break that down there are many niche selections to choose from within that keyword: baseball teams, major or minor league, kids, uniforms, statistics, jerseys, caps, equipment, collectables, magazines, etc.
All of these baseball niche can be fine selections to build a website around and can be quite profitable. I have an entrepreneur friend that has a number of sites, one of which is a website about football snack helmets, which has been doing well for a few years now.
What are niche goal projections and outcomes?
A projected outcome of your goals within your chosen niche.
Niche - The topic or category that you've chosen for your site.
Goal - The end result that you are seeking.
Projection - An estimation of when the end result will occur,
for example:
  • First commission sale within 30 days.
>>>>By writing an article per day for 30 days.
  • First page ranking with my targeted keyword within 30 days.
>>>>By writing posts three times a week for four weeks, with each having an internal link to my targeted keyword page.
What exactly are you going to do to reach your goal? Or what are you willing to give up in exchange for the desired goal? Maybe turn off the TV for a few hours each day, or trade in some wasted time for, that same time being spent to reach your goals.
The law of sowing and reaping
There is a time for sowing and a time for reaping. The time spent sowing, or creating the business can be for years depending on the project and the desired result. Once the sowing time is up, the reaping time can start and be indefinite.
There are many tasks that need to be done with any set goal and each one takes time and effort to complete. I've heard that "excellence is a commitment to completion", so we need to be good finishers of each task and reach our goals.
The time spent sowing can be less depending on the effort given to it. If we sow little we will reap little also. If we are building a website and posting to it once a week it will take quite a while longer to reach our goals of filling it up with quality content, as opposed to posting 3-4 times per week.
Are you busy or productive?
The definition for:
Busy - actively involved in doing something, or having a lot of things to do.
Productive - achieving or producing a significant amount or result.
Are we busy doing many things without a proper order or timely, continuous task completion?
Example: spending hours on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter and also additional hours on other things without making posting quality content for our viewers our #1 priority.
It's easy at times to get involved or over-involved in a project that ends up taking a lot more time than we thought but aside from that we'll be more productive and reach our goals quicker if we properly structure our time and always make posting fresh quality content a priority.
Create clear niche images
We need to do some internal and external research and visually see some other website businesses within our niche. This will give a look at how the other niche sites are presenting themselves and their products. The internal research is making a list, over a couple or few days, of things that we love to do, or what are we passionate about. It's best to select a niche that you would like to spend a lot of time and energy on, not one that you'll get bored with or become disinterested with. We can also choose to create a nice affiliate website setup to inform about and promote products, or have a non-profit or personal site (.org). Many website owners have multiple sites.
Create a vision board
Do you have any wall space at home to devote to a vision board? They're great to increase motivation and energize your efforts as you pursue goals.
Take a nice area of wall space and fill it up with goal related images and headlines and pictures that inspire every time you look at it. See, visualize, and feel the goal being reached as you look at the board and are inspired to move forward and achieve. Keep on adding and replacing inspiring images and text to keep it fresh, in sight and also in your mind.
Websites like Pinterest are great for creating vision boards and one can create as many boards as they want for fun, or to keep private.
Ninja Productivity Tip
I guess it doesn't matter what type of business that you are promoting but all have dozens of tasks that need to be done continually and properly. Many have multiple internet businesses and always have a list of things that need to be done asap. Well here's a great tip I've used and recommend to you.
Plan ahead and:
  1. Remove all distractions or find a place where you can be uninterrupted.
  2. Choose only one thing to focus on completely for an hour and set a timer.
  3. Stop when the timer goes off and leave it for the next time. Don't think about it anymore.
  4. Take a short walk or take a non-sitting break, unless you've been using a standing desk. Lying flat on your back might feel good too.
  5. Start the next task and repeat the process.
If a little more than 60 minutes is needed go ahead and finish the task before taking a break. If it needs much more time to complete put it away until next time. After you've powered through a focused hour and taken a break to refresh, you can set the timer for another 60 minutes and continue where you left off or move to another task.
